The increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere has been
described as "the greatest social, economic and environmental
threat of this century."
Increasingly teams want to ensure that their next away day
doesn't add to their corporate carbon footprint. To this end
we've come up with a variety of team challenges that result
in more greenhouse gases being absorbed than are emitted during
a team building experience. A truly Carbon Positive event!
The woodland trust has calculated that it takes seven trees
100 years to offset 1.4 tonnes of carbon. This is the equivalent
of one round trip to New York.
With the Fresh Tracks Carbon Positive Challenge a team can
attempt to offset its entire annual carbon output through
a single day's hard graft out in the fresh air.
By measuring the amount of air travel, heat, light and power
the team's activities consume within a year a calculation
can translate this into the quantity of trees that should
be planted to offset the carbon deposited into the atmosphere.
Under the guiding hand of woodland professionals, groups
can choose to right their wrongs and benefit from a unique
shared experience whilst gaining a greater appreciation of
how to live a more 'carbon neutral' life at the same time.
Programme
We will source the location, trees, tools and experts needed
to achieve your project.
The programme starts in a country pub or hotel alongside
a warming log fire with an introduction outlining the benefit
of trees to our environment. This is followed by instruction
in tree-planting and an explanation of the importance of woodland
as a habitat for wildlife.
The group then calculates their carbon emissions and considers
what could be done to reduce these over the coming year, perhaps
even agreeing a target to work towards.
The team takes part in a site survey before being provided
with all the tools and information they need to get planting!
An event manager or facilitatorwill ensure that energy levels
remain high allocating new tasks to team members throughout
the course of the day so that each individual gets to experience
a wide range of activities and to work alongside several colleagues.
This activity is both educational and hugely rewarding, with
the focus on getting back to nature and understanding the
importance of our environment.
