Totally agree with you that taking colleagues on web camp will transform your communication in result oriented meeting plus you may have little bit of fun in informal chat.

For people in C-level positions they got there because of the full engagement in their work, and at that level where work, travel, and the company spread-sheets are necessary for your role in the organization anything less will be deleterious to your success in the job.
You are right in being thoughtful of what you value and if you value home life then promotions to Sr. management are not your desire.
These leaders are not bores they are talented and passionate about there work, which is what drives success for the company and self. The challenge comes when a promotion is offered or taken that the person does not value to work in that role, or cannot handle the necessary complexity of the work in that role. When this happen the Boss becuase MORE than a bore they become a tyrant.
I would rather have a boss that has the Wisdom, skills and values to LOVE their work and find intense passion in what they do (because I would consider them a learning resource) than a boss who wan no equipt to handle the amount of time and commitment to the work and became a tyrant instead.

This is a great and simple task - perfect as a way of introducing new staff to the office. We often do this, also makes for a nice friday afternoon activity to wind down to the weekend.

Agreed giving feedback is really important & possibly under valued in business.

Some really interesting stats from surveys & reports. Employees generally want feedback and therefore it's essential to keep employees engaged in their jobs.

We wrote a similar article with some feedback tips on our blog http://blog.thales-trainingconsultancy.com/feedback-enjoying-the-piste/
