Fresh Tracks Team Talk

New Events 2008
We have some new exiting event ideas in the pipeline for 2008; one in particular is Rocket Scientists. Believe it or not it's just over 50 years since the launch of the Sputnik satellite into space and, to celebrate this, we have created a new action-packed programme where teams will be tasked with building a rocket-powered vehicle whose speed can reach 100mph. In Sickness and in Health
According to 'HR Magazine', UK workers are taking to their sick beds in record numbers this week as the winter's Norovirus bug takes hold. More than 3.6 million - 12.5% of the working population - are currently off work sick according to FirstCare, the absence management provider.

The New Year is traditionally a time of reflection, for people to consider both their personal life and their work life. Worryingly, statistics have emerged that as many as one in four employees are planning to leave their jobs in the New Year. With this in mind, it is absolutely vital that HR departments and Talent Management recognise the warning signs and learn how to retain their best people.

Ensuring that your staff and colleagues feel valued, motivated and engaged is not an easy task, particularly at this time of year. There are a variety of different ways in which team building can help.

You could consider options such as the Strength Deployment Inventory® (SDI) which is a gentle psychometric exercise that aims to improve relationships within teams and organisations. Alternatively, our 'Go FAR' programme focuses on inspiring participants to find ways of making their work fun whilst developing a positive attitude to their job, colleagues and wider role within the organisation.

Or perhaps take a look at our staff engagement survey, Colorvote, an interactive survey in which the opinions of individuals are canvassed on key issues. It can be used to measure employee engagement, customer satisfaction or leadership performance.

Like all of our team building programmes and activities, these programmes can be easily incorporated into staff conferences and/or team meetings to re-enforce key messages or as part of an ongoing learning and development programme.

Fresh Update
2007 was officially our most successful year to date and one during which we have been working hard at creating new and inspiring team building activities, such as our Carbon Positive Challenge and a range of Corporate Responsibility Projects.

Feedback collected from clients during 2007 was fantastic, with 97% of respondents stating that Fresh Tracks had met or exceeded their expectations. From our feedback we were able to see that our most successful events during 2007 were:

The Chocolate Challenge (team building for those with a sweet tooth)
Team Tasks (a variety of logical, creative, physical & artistic tasks)
Lights, Camera, Action (teams work together to produce a short film)
Cooking up a Storm (participants design and prepare a three-course meal)

Book Review - The Definitive Book Of Body Language
It's well-known that body language often reveals much more about what people really think or feel than what they actually say. This book takes you behind the façade and, with the aid of a wealth of examples using figures from public life, detailed descriptions and illustrations, helps you to become adept at deciphering the body language of others as well as mastering your own.

Although a fascinating general read at any time of the year, this book fits in well with the New Year self-help theme, as it offers practical advice on how to:

• Make a positive impression on others
• Get cooperation from other people
• Interview and negotiate successfully
• Tell if someone is lying
• Even choose a partner!
