When children’s charity Rainbow Trust wanted to engage with Lombard Financial Services, our Toy Factory Exercise was the perfect fit.
The day began with Lynn (a family support worker) from Rainbow Trust sharing her experience of working with a family going through the crisis of child bereavement, and how she uses play therapy to engage with and support siblings.
Teams then set to work on creating their own handmade wooden toys to be used by Lynn and her colleagues as they visit some of the 11,000 families with a seriously ill child.
The dedication and pride shown by the teams powerfully demonstrated the significance of teams working with a shared purpose.
“This is a great day, working together on a new activity and knowing that the finished product is going to be used to support such a worthy cause really focuses the mind”
“Working together on making these toys has given us the space for real conversations and relationships to develop. Coupled together with helping the Rainbow Trust this really has been a win-win day”
“Not only has it been great to help Rainbow Trust today, we’ve also developed as a team”
The day concluded with a very special visitor coming to judge the finished products; toy expert Alexander, aged 9, recently recovered from Leukaemia. His father spoke about how the Rainbow Trust enabled them to cope as a family during Alexander’s illness, powerfully concluding this playful away day with meaning.
