The Team Machine

Team Machine Team Building ActivityEach team is given a set of building materials to create a moving sculpture. The plans are muddled requiring sharing of data before building can commence. The group then set to work on their devices ranging from a launch device, to a helter-skelter. Components must be assembled in just the right way for the individual mechanisms to work. Later the teams must work together to find the correct sequence of mechanisms, so that, once launched each element will trigger the next in a chain reaction building to an explosive finale!

Toy Factory

Toy Factory Team Building EventThe whole group has to work together to produce high quality wooden toys that can be donated to a children’s hospital, charity or home or sold to raise funds for charity. Success is determined by quality not quantity so the teams must select roles carefully and devise a manufacturing process that is both efficient and produces finished toys good enough to give as gifts. The Toy Factory is similar to a real production line with teams having to cut out components from a wooden sheet then sand off rough edges before gluing, painting and assembling their toys. Activities include planning an effective production system; clearly communicating roles and targets; forecasting the most appropriate toys and puzzles for the target audience; efficiently deploying team members to where they are most suited and needed; controlling costs and avoiding waste; managing time and accommodating unforeseen situations; managing and maintaining quality; distributing the finished goods in a way that benefits the less fortunate.

Lights, Camera, Action!

Filming Team Building ActivityA lively challenge that combines the need for the team to think and work creatively within a short period of time.  Strengths and hidden talents are highlighted when the finished films are shown at the end of the session.  Teams are asked to produce a short film either about their organisation or as an advert for a new product.  Following an open discussion on what makes an effective film delegates are given some pointers on how to make their film distinctive.  Within a set time they must then produce a storyboard and – with digital cameras and laptops – carry out the filming and editing within their team before the finished films are shown at the end of the session.

Treasure Hunt Challenge

Team Building Treasure Hunt ChallengeAn on-foot, tailored treasure hunt that takes participants around the venue and/or local area in a themed treasure hunt. Participants work in small teams navigating around the route with the aim of completing the circuit and solving clues in the shortest time possible. This team navigation exercise encourages planning, time-keeping, problem solving and observation skills. Each team is issued with a set of instructions and a series of cryptic clues to solve. As they depart they are informed of the time by which they have to return to the venue; if this time is exceeded penalty points will be deducted!

 Multi Activity Programme

A fun indoor/outdoor session that requires teams to work together on a range of challenges requiring mental, physical and creative skills.  Activity stations will be set up around the venue with teams moving from station to station to complete each task. Examples of the sorts of activities they will be required to carry out include:

Cube Tower Team Building TaskCube Tower: Each team is presented with a number of large foam cubes (50x50x50cm) and asked to estimate the maximum height of a tower that an be built using the cubes – they then have a set time in which to build it. Ambitious estimates reap the greatest rewards but estimates that are not met lead to penalties.

Blindfold Tent Challenge: a scenario-based challenge which requires teams (who in this scenario are Arctic explorers who have been caught in bad weather) to elect a leader and then erect a tent to gain shelter. As a result of the severe weather conditions, the team’s leader is suffering from frost bite in both hands and is unable physically to help in the erection of the tent. Meanwhile the rest of the team is suffering from snow blindness and as a result cannot see.

Giant Lego Arch Team Building TaskGiant Lego Arch: requires teams to build an arch large enough to enable a team member to cycle through the arch.  The task begins with a planning phase, during which the teams can refine their design and calculate their expected costs.  Having submitted their estimated profit based on the number of bricks used and time spent building the timed construction phase begins.  On completion actual build time, materials used and profitability are compared to the written estimates and discrepancies discussed.  Finally each arch is put to the test as the bicycle is lined up for a drive through each team’s arch.

Leonardo's Bridge Team Building ChallengeLeonardo’s Bridge: The team is asked to build a bridge that spans the largest gap possible. The only equipment available is a series of 1.2m wooden posts – no ropes, straps, screws or bolts. It takes considerable creative thinking and experimentation to emulate Leonardo’s design and the challenge is to keep going and experimenting in the face of failure.
