Motivating your team members can make a noticeable difference to their performance and the atmosphere at work. Here are five tips to give your team a boost, so they know you care.
1. Say thank you more often and mean it.
If you thank every team member at least once a day and explain why they have done a good job rather than just saying a token ‘thanks’ this will make their day a whole lot better, empower them and you’ll see productivity increase.
2. Share positive news.
Share information about the bigger picture – such as strategic moves and company goals. This demonstrates to employees that you trust them with important information.
3. Offer flexibility with working environment.
You could allow your staff to work on a specific project offsite or from home if the peace and quiet helps. As long as you can see the fruits of their labour, this might be an attractive proposition for an employee.
4. Set short-term goals.
By creating some challenging but achievable short term strategic targets your team will have some reachable goals they can focus their energies on. When the goals are achieved, be sure to praise them for their efforts.
5. Show the team you can muck-in
Make the tea round once in a while – little gestures sometimes speak volumes about how you perceive your staff.
