questions for your teamAs managers we have a huge influence over our team members’ wellbeing, mood and therefore performance. Whilst it is critical to set goals, coach, praise and correct where necessary, it is also vital to take an interest in the individual. Either during formal one on ones or whenever an opportunity for a private conversation occurs. Simply asking a question about how things are going (Present State), along with an enquiry into ambitions (Future Progress) demonstrates that you are on your team member’s side and want them to be the best they can be.

Developing the talent within our organisations

Despite rising unemployment recruiters of senior managers are claiming it is still far from easy to attract talent.  People in secure employment are far less willing to switch jobs than they were two years ago.

It is therefore imperative to develop the talent within our organisations, a fact supported by a Deloitte survey that found 60% of business leaders intend to increase investment in management development in the months ahead.  Another survey carried out by PwC reports that 85% of CEOs expect to overhaul the way their organisations manage people during change….

Training your way out of the recession

The Times Online has a very interesting article about spending money on training and therefore saving money during the recession.

The newspaper says: Britain’s employers are being urged to “grow their own” after researchers at Cranfield School of Management discovered that investing in training not only saves money but is more effective than shopping around for talent.
