Adventure Space

"I remember watching Ray Mears demonstrate how to make fire from a spark, using dried grass, twigs and fallen wood.  Finding a place to practice the technique myself was a greater challenge.

I listened to a podcast extolling the benefits of hammocks over tents.  The out of season campground took some persuading to give permission to attach our gear to their trees.

And the off-road riding skills I’ve learnt can’t be easily practiced and repeated on green lanes.

What if there was an area of private ground where responsible adventurers could practice their skills, without travelling far from home and with the land owner’s consent?"

Dan Collins, Fresh Tracks

The first Fresh Tracks Adventure Practice Space aims to provide just that.  In a one acre corner of our property we have a set aside an area of hard standing and some undulating terrain with a nearby network of green lanes to explore.  Under an hour from Central London, on the Herts/Essex border. Come alone or with a small group of friends to:

  • Test your gear
  • Practice your riding skills
  • Camp the way you want to
  • Leave no trace

Also available on site is a 3 meter by 7 meter cabin, replicating the refuge huts and bothies you might encounter on a journey. Or, for a more luxurious stay, our en-suite Granary and two bedroom converted Barn can be rented separately (3 night minimum).

As with wild camping it is important to respect nature and neighbours.  This is not a place for loud exhausts and late night camping parties, it is somewhere for quiet enjoyment, safe practice and sharing of skills.

Fees

  • Access and shared use of the space with cabin £100 per person per 24 hours
  • Twin bed en-suite Granary £90 per night (min 3 nights)
  • Two bedroom Barn  £190 per night (min 3 nights)
