For years robots have been building cars and assembling televisions. In fact, the first robot was designed by Leonardo Da Vinci as far back as 1515. More recently in his June 2013 TED Talk, Andrew McAfee suggests that within a few years droids will take the majority of our jobs.
I’m not talking about physical movement although that is important in meetings. I’m talking about feeling moved, emotionally.
Tears, passion even laughter can all be hallmarks of an effective meeting, much as they are in literature or drama. In the same way that we find ourselves binge watching a thrilling box set, a well led meeting will attract attendees. They will turn up early, well prepared and keen to engage. Does this sound like your business meetings?
How many conversations will you have today? You’ll probably attend at least one meeting, drink a coffee with a friend, make a few phone calls and maybe interview a new team member.
Whilst we all know that the switch to working from home rather than commuting to the office offers some savings. Two documents briefly captured my attention today that illustrate just how much better off employers and employees can be going forward.
As the nights draw in, the feelings of freedom and liberation from not having to commute to the office are being replaced by less positive feelings about work, relationships, and even our homes, particularly as the house that was once a haven from career pressures is now the host.

Poor sleep is, therefore, a reliable early indicator that our mental health is at risk. Whilst it is quite normal to lose some sleep during periods of stress, the danger is that the fact we are not sleeping well can further increase the threat to the health of our minds.

A Bank Holiday with the chance of having a 3 or 4 day weekend to recharge is something that every looks forward to. These enforced Bank Holidays should result in a more rested and energised work force but it seems most of us are using these long weekends to keep working and catch up on the backlog.
